Released in 1969, this album is by Swiss drummer Pierre Favre, whose wide-ranging talents have been demonstrated across jazz and experimental music through his appearances on numerous ECM recordings, collaborations with vocal performer Tamia, and free-jazz sessions with musicians such as Andrea Centazzo. Recorded in Zurich in 1968, the album features a trio with Swiss pianist Irène Schweizer—who contributed a composition to the 1967 masterpiece Jazz Meets India and also produced outstanding work with John Tchicai—and German bassist Peter Kowald, known for his collaborations with Barre Phillips, Peter Brötzmann, and others. Favre’s spatial drumming, Kowald’s supple bass lines, and Schweizer’s piano scattering freely in every direction intertwine in free-form interplay. The improvisations surge forward and recede like waves, creating a truly remarkable performance. Original Swiss pressing, apparently privately released.
