Released in 1978, this album was recorded by American guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Ralph Towner with Eddie Gomez on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. Alongside his work with Collin Walcott, Glen Moore, and Paul McCandless as a member of the ethnic-jazz group Oregon, Towner made his ECM debut in 1973 with a duo album recorded with Moore and went on to release a steady series of outstanding albums as a leader for the label. Towner’s finely detailed melodies on twelve-string and classical guitars, Gomez’s lyrical bass solos—at times accompanied by his own scat singing—and DeJohnette’s dynamic drumming unite as one to paint an abstract musical canvas. A masterpiece overflowing with the distinctive romanticism of ECM. US pressing.
