An album released in 1956 by American pianist Randy Weston, who had Jamaican heritage and had a long career starting in the 1950s. In 1966, he left behind the classic African Cookbook, a masterpiece of soulful post-bop infused with the deep spirit of Africa and a strong blues influence. This album, released on Riverside, features recordings from 1955 with his trio, including Sam Gill (bass) and Wilbert Hogan (drums). Weston's piano, with its delicate touch, beautifully weaves melodies across a selection of tracks ranging from jazz standards like Summertime and Duke Ellington’s C-Jam Blues to traditional pieces and his own original compositions, making for an outstanding listening experience.
