Featured in the first edition of the guidebook Obscure Sound. The 1978 debut album by Rasa, an obscure American group centered around Robert Campagnola, better known as Harikesa Swami. Rasa are generally associated with heavily Krishna-influenced ethnic psychedelic rock and folk, but this first album stands apart as an almost completely pure AOR record. Throughout the album, gently grooving rhythm sections are paired with mellow electric piano and elegant string arrangements, creating a peaceful, Balearic-tinged mellow groove from beginning to end. The lyrics appear to be based on the teachings of Krishna, but the musical quality is remarkably high for what was essentially part of a religious outreach project. A true hidden gem.
