Right Down Your Alley

An album released in 1984 by American trombonist Ray Anderson, also known for his work with the Barry Altschul Trio and Slickaphonics. This is a trio recording with his longtime collaborators, bassist Mark Helias and percussionist Gerry Hemingway. As with Oahspe and You Be, released under the same trio name, the album presents an idiosyncratic take on free jazz marked by sharp wit and highly interactive interplay. That said, the standout recommendation is B3, a piece of tropical jazz whose gently flowing steel-pan performance by Anderson, paired with the percussion of Gerry Hemingway—whose work was also featured in the guidebook OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION—creates an especially warm and inviting atmosphere.
