American tuba player Ray Draper, who debuted at just 16 years old on Prestige in 1957, released a leader album from Prestige in the same year. The album features a sextet with Webster Young (trumpet), Jackie McLean (alto saxophone), Mal Waldron (piano), Spanky De Breast (bass), and Ben Dixon (drums). It appears that this album served as Young's substantive debut. Opening with an original score by Young, the album showcases compositions by Draper and Waldron, as well as popular songs known for being sung by Billie Holiday. Draper's melodic playing, characterized by the unique vibrato of the tuba's deep tones, though somewhat understated due to the instrument's construction, is complemented by the excellent performances of McLean and Webster. This reissued domestic promotional album was released in 1977 as part of Victor's "Prestige Jazz Golden 50" series.
