One of Red Garland’s most beloved Prestige titles, recorded in a trio setting with Paul Chambers and Art Taylor. As the title suggests, this is less a solemn, tightly framed masterpiece than an album filled with Garland’s effortless elegance, where swing seems to spill naturally from his fingertips. On “C-Jam Blues,” his distinctive block chords and rolling right hand bounce beautifully within a simple blues progression. On “Gone Again” and “Will You Still Be Mine?,” Paul Chambers’ full, singing bass and Art Taylor’s clean brushwork and cymbals support the piano without disturbing its lingering resonance, giving the trio a wonderfully warm balance. Rather than flashy devices, the album excels in the refinement of touch, timing, and blues feeling — piano jazz that slips naturally into the room even when played quietly at night. Japanese reissue released by Victor in 1976, with obi and insert.
