This is the 1980 debut solo album by Swiss pianist René Bottlang, who has also released collaborative works with Charlie Haden and Mal Waldron. Except for A2, all tracks on this album are original compositions by Bottlang. With a light touch, sometimes fast-paced, and at other times emotionally melodious melodies, Bottlang delivers a highly imaginative piano solo performance throughout the entire album, making it an undiscovered gem. While hinting at contemporary music approaches, the album also exhibits strong improvisational elements, reminiscent of Andrew Hill. The sound quality, with just the right amount of studio reverb, is superb and enjoyable. On the back cover, there is a comment from Paul Bley. Highly recommended.
