A 1988 album by Roger Eno, the younger brother of Brian Eno, who began working in earnest after appearing on Brian’s 1983 album Apollo. Produced by Canadian guitarist Michael Brook, known for his many collaborations with Jon Hassell, the album was recorded at locations including Abbey Road Studios in London, a church in Woodbridge, and Queen Elizabeth Hall. Rather than using synthesizers, Eno plays acoustic piano throughout, accompanied by violin, viola, cello, clarinet, flute, and percussion. The result is an ambitious blend of modern classical and ambient music with a distinctly chamber-like character. A solemn, spacious, and deeply atmospheric sound world unfolds from beginning to end.
