A new release has arrived from Lobby Art Editions, the Brooklyn-based label founded by Sam Wenc, who also serves as the label director of Mississippi Records. This album, released under the name Ryan Sawyer’s Shaker Ensemble, comes from drummer Ryan Sawyer, known for his participation in Boredoms’ 77/88 Drums project and collaborations with Massive Attack, among others. The album captures a 40-minute-plus performance that begins with an extended section of repetitive, minimal shaker rhythms, passes through a break, and then dives into a deep zone filled with industrial echoes and reverberations. It’s an exceptional work offering a glimpse into one of the many facets of New York’s contemporary experimental music scene.
