A 1974 release by Japanese guitarist Sadanori Nakamure, a key figure in Japan’s jazz scene since the 1950s, known for his masterful 1975 duo recording Conversation with bassist Kunikatsu Inaba on Three Blind Mice, as well as his collaborations with shakuhachi player Hozan Yamamoto. Here, Nakamure leads a sextet featuring Mitsuo Yamamoto (g), George Otsuka (ds), Masaoki Terakawa (b), Hideo Miyata (per), and Masami Kawahara (per). The album is devoted entirely to Brazilian music, presenting sophisticated jazz interpretations of classics by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jorge Ben, João Donato, Carlos Lyra, and João Gilberto. A beautifully polished work highlighted by Nakamure’s gentle, expressive guitar touch — a true gem. Highly recommended.
