American saxophonist Sam Rivers, a key figure in New York's loft jazz scene of the mid-1970s, and he released duo album with Dave Holland and a trilogy of albums on the Circle label called The Tuba Trio. This leader album on ECM in 1980 is featuring Dave Holland (b), Thurman Barker (dr) and George Lewis (tb). The album features free jazz interplay at will, as well as deep jazz such as A4, where Sam Rivers' flute floats and grooves, and B2, where he paints shadows in a deep reverberant space.
