Released in 1985, this album by American pianist Sandy Owen, who made his debut in 1975 and has worked across a wide range of styles from jazz to adult contemporary, remains relatively unknown despite his versatility. Centered around Owen’s Steinway acoustic piano, the album features duo, trio, and quartet performances with saxophone, flugelhorn, oboe, English horn, cello, and percussion. Drawing influence from classical, chamber, and contemporary music, Owen crafts sophisticated contemporary jazz ensembles of remarkable subtlety. The album evokes a refreshing, scenic atmosphere reminiscent of the Windham Hill school of New Age music. Though virtually unknown in Japan, this is a highly recommended record for fans of Oregon and ECM releases.
