A 1983 album by Superstars International, led by Nigerian singer and guitarist Segun Adewale, who is of Yoruba heritage. Fellow Nigerian star King Sunny Adé also released a song with a similar title, but this album takes as its theme Ase (Àṣẹ), an important concept in Yoruba culture referring to the power or spiritual force through which words, prayers, and actions can bring things into being. Structured in the classic juju format, with multiple songs flowing seamlessly into one another, the album is driven by the undulating rhythms of talking drums, while horn sections and guitars weave around the groove. A superb set of highly danceable juju throughout, firmly rooted in tradition yet infused with a strong dose of funk.
