An album released in 1973 by Sexteto Mayor, one of Argentina’s leading tango sextets, centered around bandoneon players Luis Stazo and José Libertella, with pianist Armando Cupo, violinists Reynaldo Nichele and Fernando Suárez Paz, and double bassist Juan Carlos Vallejos. Featuring A2, an early piece composed by Astor Piazzolla together with Aníbal Troilo, A4 by Leopoldo Federico and Osvaldo Requena, which remains one of the group’s signature numbers, as well as original scores by the members themselves, this is a superb early masterpiece from the group, offering a full taste of authentic tango performed with only bandoneon and string ensemble—elegant, deeply melancholic, and beautifully refined. Among the highlights, B2, composed by Luis Stazo and Armando Cupo, comes especially recommended.
A2: Contrabajeando
B2: Del 73
