An album released in 1986 on ECM by Lakshminarayanan Shankar, one of the Shankar family members who have inherited the culture of Indian classical music, in collaboration with British composer/vocalist Caroline. The album features contributions from Steve Vai (g), known for his work in Frank Zappa’s band, Gilbert Kaufman (synth), and Percy Jones (b). With electronic beats produced by a drum machine and the hard-edged electric guitar of Vai, it presents a post-punkish no-wave style synth-pop. Among ECM’s many releases, this is one of the most unique, showcasing Manfred Eicher’s boundless spirit of challenge.
