Shankar "M.R.C.S."

Tamil-Indian violinist Shankar, who was also a member of John McLaughlin's group Shakti and has collaborated with many cutting-edge artists including Peter Gabriel, Bill Laswell and David Byrne. Released in 1991, this album is dedicated to the great Indian musician V. Lakshminarayana and features Zakir Hussain and John Cristensen. The album features ECM's sophisticated sound of Indian jazz, such as A4, which has a pleasant floating violin tone with a wet tabla rhythm in the background, and B4, which has a wonderful spiritual soundscape sublimated from the jazz idiom.
