Sonny Simmons is an American saxophonist who met and worked with Prince Lasha in the 50's, recorded with Lasha in the 60's, formed a group with his wife, trumpeter Barbara Donald, in the mid-60's, and left many masterpieces in a short period until the early 70's. This album was released in 1968., that features Barbara Doland (tp), Mike Cohen (p), Juney Booth (b), Jim Zitro (ds), and Burt Wilson (ts). Taking its title from the ancient Greek belief by Pythagoras that the movements of the heavenly bodies emitted sound and that the entire universe was making music, the title of the album is "Music of the Spheres" a completely chaotic free improvisation that has turned into a flood of sound. This is super string-theory-like avant-garde jazz that beautifully expresses the "Music of the Spheres" which is extremely loud, but is always ringing and therefore inaudible to humans. Original US pressing.
