Sonny Stitt
Tune-Up!
Cobblestone (Japan) 1972
YS-2741-CO (LP) w/insert.
sleeve : EX-(light dirts)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noise)

American saxophonist Sonny Stitt released this leader album on Cobblestone in 1972. Produced by Don Schlitten, it is a one-horn quartet session featuring an outstanding rhythm section with Barry Harris on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Alan Dawson on drums. The program centers mainly on standard bop numbers, but Stitt’s superb playing, switching freely between alto and tenor saxophone, is simply exceptional. Highlights include the thrilling, hard-driving title track A1, composed by Miles Davis, the deeply lyrical A2, and B3, where the group develops an overwhelmingly swinging performance. A straight-ahead jazz masterpiece from Stitt’s Cobblestone period, driven purely by the uncompromising performances of these master musicians. Japanese pressing released the same year as the US pressing.
