A 1969 collaboration between Spooky Tooth—a British rock band formed when American keyboardist/vocalist Gary Wright joined members of the 1960s group Art—and French sound engineer Pierre Henry, one of the pioneers of musique concrète. Throughout the album, Spooky Tooth’s hard-edged psychedelic rock is invaded by Henry’s finely textured, glittering electronic sounds, unidentified eerie breathing noises, and other strange sonic elements, resulting in an intensely warped and hallucinatory acid-rock experience. The entire record is extraordinarily bizarre and powerful, with the worlds of psychedelic rock and musique concrète colliding head-on. It also seems to carry over some of the ideas Henry had explored in Messe pour le temps présent, the music he created for a stage work choreographed by Maurice Béjart.
