A 1977 album by the singular multi-instrumentalist Stephan Micus, known for freely incorporating everything from conventional instruments to flowerpots and stones into his music, released on JAPO, the ECM-affiliated German jazz label. Highlights include the extended A1, where Micus delivers his distinctive vocals over the rustic combination of sitar and acoustic guitar, and B4, driven by the strummed sound of the Afghan traditional string instrument rubab and powerful chant-like vocals reminiscent of Qur’anic recitation. With its strong emphasis on non-Western traditional music, this is an important early work that possesses a rawness, earthiness, and physical intensity rarely found in his later recordings. Original German pressing.

A1: as I Crossed a Bridge of Dreams
B4: For M'schr and Djingis Khan
