Steve Kuhn, a jazz pianist born in Brooklyn, New York, released his leader album on ECM in 1978. The quartet consists of Steve Slagle (ss,as,ft,per), Harvie Swartz (b) and Bob Moses (dr). From tense tracks with groovy interplay to mystical numbers with Kuhn's piano playing beautiful melodies while Swartz's bass sings and breathes slowly, this is an excellent piece of polyrhythmic jazz in its entirety. B1, with its light flute and bass, is a perfect example of the ECM sound.
