This is a 1971 album by Steve Lacy, one of the most esteemed soprano saxophone players, who had been active since the mid-1950s. From the mid-1960s onwards, he contributed to the promotion of avant-garde/free jazz through his participation in the Jazz Composers Orchestra, formed in the mid-1960s with figures like Carla Bley and Michael Mantler, and numerous sessions. The album was released as part of the renowned "<Actuel>" series by the French BYG Records. Recorded in Rome in 1969 with a sextet featuring Italo Toni (trombone), Claudio Volonte (clarinet), Irene Aebi (cello), Marcello Mellis (bass), and Jacques Thollot (drums), the album captures an improvised session where each part unfolds with a restless and free interplay. The groovy final track B2, with Thollot's drums and Mellis's bass, stands out as particularly noteworthy.
