This is the first leader album by Steve Lacy, who has been active at the forefront since the mid-1950s and has contributed to the promotion of avant/free jazz through his participation in the Jazz Composers Orchestra, formed by Carla Bley and Michael Mantler, and numerous sessions since the mid-1960s. The quartet with Wynton Kellyt (p), Buell Neidlinger (b) and Dennis Charles (b). Lacy was only 23 years old at the time of recording, and although the playing is fairly straightforward, you can seriously hear glimpses of the talent that would later blossom into a major force. The three backing players are also excellent. This is a US reissue released in 1984 on Original Jazz Classics.
