Released in 1969, this album as a leader is by American saxophonist Steve Marcus, who first came to prominence through Jazz in the Classroom and the Buddy Rich Big Band before producing a series of outstanding recordings from the mid-1960s onward that responded directly to the psychedelic movement. Recorded with a formidable ensemble featuring Larry Coryell on guitar, Bob Moses on drums, Mike Nock on piano, Dominic Cortese on accordion, and Chris Swansen on percussion, the album delivers powerful, blues-infused jazz-rock saturated with an intense psychedelic rock sensibility and Marcus’s fiercely explosive blowing. Coryell’s distorted guitar erupts throughout, matched by Nock’s hard-attacking piano accompaniment. Absolutely killer. Original US pressing.
