A masterpiece live recording released in 1971, documenting a performance given that same year at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan by Japanese percussionist Ssutomu Yamash’ta, who had already made his name in the fields of classical and contemporary music from the late 1960s onward. The album also features Japanese traditional musicians Roetsu Tosha and Suiho Tosha. Side A presents a work composed in 1962 by H. Tircut for chamber orchestra and percussion, while Side B consists of a three-movement piece written after the composer secretly returned to Japan in 1970 and stayed at Toru Takemitsu’s home, created for performance with Roetsu Tosha and Suiho Tosha. Across both sides, the expressive sound world unfolds with remarkable intensity, incorporating Japanese classical instruments such as tsuzumi hand drums and yokobue flute. An absolutely outstanding recording. A very rare white-label promo copy. The sound quality is also exceptionally superb.
