A compilation album released in 1967 featuring representative recordings by Jagmohan Sursagar, a celebrated figure in modern Indian song. Born in West Bengal, Jagmohan was a singer and composer with a strong grounding in classical vocal traditions such as dhrupad, thumri, tappa, and kirtan, and remained active from the late 1930s onward. Centered mainly on light classical songs that fully showcase his gifts as a vocalist, this collection is truly outstanding, with his delicate inflections and deeply melancholic expression bringing together elements of ghazal, bhajan, Indian classical vocal music, and modern Indian song in a quietly seamless way. The soft, warm sound quality characteristic of vintage Indian HMV pressings is also deeply appealing.
