What Are You Talking About?
IMA/DIW (Japan) 1983
IMA-003/DIW-1119 (LP)
sleeve : EX+(one corner slightly crushed)
media : EX+/EX+(some parts with slight surface noise)

This 1983 album features an assembly of free jazz luminaries: the recently deceased free improviser/trumpeter Toshinori Kondo, American cellist Tristan Honsinger, German bassist Peter Kowald, and drummer Sabu (Toyozumi Yoshisaburo). It is a collaborative release between Kondo's IMA label and Disk Union's DIW label. Recorded in the same year at Chestnut Studio in Suzuka-yama, the album includes six compositions by Honsinger and three by Kondo. This is a wonderfully enjoyable session work, where the artists exchange free-form improvisations while expressing a love for New Orleans, the root of jazz. Highly recommended for fans of Art Ensemble of Chicago and Lester Bowie's ECM works.
