his album, released by Terje Rypdal in 1980 on ECM, showcases the exceptional skills of one of Norway's foremost guitarists who, after debuting with the rock 'n' roll band The Vanguards in the early 1960s, shifted to jazz in the mid-to-late 1960s following his encounter with fellow guitarist Jan Garbarek from the same hometown. Terje Rypdal's wide-ranging musical sensibilities have since led him to create numerous masterpieces. On this album, he collaborates with Palle Mikkelborg (trumpet, flugelhorn, keyboards) and Jon Christensen (drums, percussion) as a trio. The album is a collection of superbly refined soundscapes, starting with the ethereal intro of muted trumpet and electric guitar that transitions into an open and dynamic world with the low center of gravity provided by the drums and percussion in track B1. The super-deep and misty textures in track B3 create an immersive and sophisticated sonic experience that delves deep into the innermost emotions. This album is among the finest in Terje Rypdal's mid-career works.
