An extraordinary jazz guitarist with roots in rock, Terje Rypdal, Czech bassist Miroslav Vitous, and American drummer Jack DeJohnette came together for this 1979 album released by ECM. Terje Rypdal’s soaring, sky-piercing guitar, Miroslav Vitous’s bass weaving fantastical melodies, and Jack DeJohnette’s aggressive, high-edge drumming come together as one, ascending toward a unified peak, creating an ultra-deep world. This can only be described as real spiritual music that far transcends the boundaries of jazz. ECM has produced numerous works that defy explanation within the genre of jazz, and in that sense, this album might be one of the best representations of the label’s identity. Truly wonderful. This is the original German pressing.
