Terje Rypdal, one of Norway's foremost virtuoso guitarists, made his debut in the early 1960s with the rock 'n' roll band The Vanguards. However, it was in the late 1960s, through his encounter with fellow guitarist Jan Garbarek from his hometown, that he transitioned into the world of jazz. From then on, his wide-ranging musical sensibilities led him to create numerous masterpieces. In 1974, he released his second album on the ECM label, which is considered a masterpiece. The album features collaboration with Nordic jazz musicians like Jon Christensen (percussion), Sveinung Hovensjø (bass), Pete Knutsen (mellotron, electric piano), and Odd Ulleberg (flugelhorn). On side A, with the trippy sounds of Pete Knutsen's mellotron, Terje Rypdal's psychedelic electric guitar takes center stage, creating a cosmic and mind-bending experience. Side B, which spans 17 minutes and 37 seconds, features a grand orchestral jazz trip with the Sudfunk Symphony Orchestra. Both sides offer a sense of cosmic expansiveness, making it a classic in the realm of cosmic jazz-rock.
