The quartet, led by Archie Shepp, a gem of a saxophonist who has produced many African-inspired jazz masterpieces along with John Coltrane and Cecil Tayler, and Bill Dixon, a trumpeter who has been active with Cecil Taylor and Sun Ra since the 1960s as a spearhead of Avant-jazz, released this album in 1962 on Savoy Records, where Dixon himself worked as A&R. The album features Don Moore (b), Paul Cohen (ds), Refgfgie Workman (b), and Howard McRae (ds) participated. The performances are very interesting, including A2, which features a song performed by comrade Ornette Coleman on "The Shape of Jazz to Come" released in 1959, and the positive attitude of Shepp and Dixon when they were trying to break away from the established bebop style. Original US pressing.

A2: Peace
