Frank Wright started his career as a bassist in the bands of Rosco Gordon and B.B. King, then switched to tenor saxophone when he met Albert Ayler, and since then has played with Larry Young, Noah Howard, Sunny Murray, and a lot of jazz musicians, and also he found his own label "Center of the World", and released a lot of masterpiece of free jazz. This album was released on ESP Disk in 1968 and features Muhammad Ali (ds), Arthur Jones (as), Jacques Coursil (tp), Steve Tintweiss (b), and Arthur Jones (as). The quintet opens with a simple but impressive theme, and then plunges into a bouncy, brooding interplay on A1, and the black spirit of B1, which is a twin of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, is evident on B1. This is a reissue of the Italian release on Base Record, probably in the 80s.
A1: The Lady
B1: Fire of Spirit
