Pulse : Works for Percussion and Strings
New World Records (US) 1984

This is a masterpiece album released in 1984 by The New Music Consort, a group formed in 1975 under the direction of Claire Heldrich and Madeleine Shapiro. It features scores by John Cage, Henry Cowell, Ruth Crawford Seeger, and Lou Harrison. John Cage's "Third Construction" is an ensemble piece for four percussionists, with a minimal refrain and dynamic variations as percussive sounds surge and recede like a tidal wave. Henry Cowell's ensemble piece for six percussionists, "Pulse," is also a fantastic performance. Highly recommended. Original US pressing.
