After moving to New York, alto saxophonist Noah Howard recorded his first album in 1966, and has since contributed to the promotion of free jazz with Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler, Frank Write, and others. This album was recorded a live concert at Qartier Latin in Berlin, Germany in 1977. Jean-Jacqes Avenell (b), Oliver Johnson (ds), and Japanese trumpeter Itaru Oki joined the quartet. The quartet performed a white-hot live performance with not only raging improvisation but also emotional themes and phrasing, including a cover of Stevie Wonder. The melodies played by Oki have a somewhat oriental atmosphere, reminiscent in some ways of Don Cherry.
