American saxophonist Bobby Watson, who has worked with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Klaus Ignatzek Group, and many other projects, as well as with his own group, released an album under the name The Robert Watson Sextet on the Swedish jazz label Amigo in 1983. The album features Mulgrew Miller (p), Steve Nelson (vib), Curtis Lundy (b), and Marvin "Smitty" Smith (dr), and Dom Um Romao as special guest. This is a modal post-bop album from start to finish, and the smoky silver performance by the participating members shines through. I highly recommend A2, which sways calmly and moodily, B1, which grooves with Latin-like rhythms, and B3, which is urban but full of spiritual. This is one to listen to slowly and carefully.
