Released in 1989, this album is by The Worlds of Love, a group centered around David Garland, who was involved in numerous recordings in the American major-label scene from the 1970s onward, working with artists ranging from Paul Williams to Sun Ra, while also collaborating with figures from the New York underground scene such as Christian Marclay, John Zorn, and Bill Laswell. Also participating are Ikue Mori and Cinnie Cole, both active in the New York underground. The music is utterly unique, fusing cutting-edge performances with unpredictable developments where fairy-tale fantasy and spectacle seem to collide and intertwine. The sound of Ikue Mori improvising on drum-machine pads is especially wild. Although the direction is different, one can also sense certain points of connection with David Byrne. A very interesting album.
