In Another Country

Uniton Records (Norway) 1983

uniton 009 (LP) w/insert.

sleeve : EX-(SRW, SOC, TEOC, wear on corner.)

media : VG+/VG+(some slightly noises. A3 and B1 has some noises.)

The first album released in 1983 by American composer and pianist Tim Story, who is based in Ohio. Originally self-released as a cassette tape in 1982, the album was picked up by the Norwegian avant-garde independent label Uniton Records and pressed on vinyl.

Highlights include A1, where a softly played synthesizer drifts through the soundscape alongside a simple acoustic piano refrain; A4, which takes on an exotic feel as the synthesizer weaves an evocative melody over a minimalist beat from a rhythm machine; and B1, where gentle, floating synthesizer drones create an endlessly soothing atmosphere.

This masterpiece of atmospheric ambient music strongly evokes similarities to German artist Hans-Joachim Roedelius. Thanks to the acclaim this album received, Tim Story's next work was distributed through Polydor on a major scale and later caught the attention of William Ackerman, leading to releases on Windham Hill Records. While he has produced several works since, this album—marked by its strong electronic presence and meditative qualities—remains an outstanding achievement.

B1 has some noise that may be a pressing-error.
