This album was released in 1971 by the Tomoyuki Okada Percussion Ensemble, which has recorded such masterpieces as "Tenchi Shohon" (a collaboration with Katsuhiro Tsubonoh) and "Kyo no Shiki" (The Four Seasons of Hibiki), a performance of works composed by Yoshihiro Sugano. With the theme of "Percussion Feast," the album features percussion works by composers such as Sirgfried Fink, Brent Seawell, Armand Russell, Sydney Hodkinson, and Bobby Christian. The key point is that the music is arranged to sound ethnic, using not only Western percussion instruments but also wooden fish, gongs, Buddhist bells, and other instruments. The technique of playing small drums and placing them in water to muffle the sound before the echoes fade away is also very interesting. Members of the ensemble include Takeo Moriyama, one of the best jazz drummers in Japan. Recommended.
