Tomasz Stanko is a leading Polish free/avant jazz trumpeter who has been active at the forefront of the jazz scene since the 1960s, collaborating with Cecil Taylor's group and other ECM-related artists and leading his own group, which has produced a number of masterpieces. This album was released in 1982. The quartet features Czeslaw Bartkowski (ds), Witold Szczurek (b), and Slawomir Kulpowicz (p), who featured on "Samarpan" in the guide book "obscure sound. The performance is a masterpiece that shows Stanko's deep love for the Roots of Jazz, while at the same time displaying a unique folk sentiment and occasional mysterious modulations that make for a unique and quintessential Stanko performance. Kulpowicz's piano playing is also excellent.
