An album by Toru Takemitsu, released in 1969 as part of the "The New Music" series by RCA Victor’s classical specialty label, RCA Victoria. Side A features the suite Atoll, composed of an introduction, interlude, and finale, interwoven with parts sung by soprano Mutsumi Masuda, performing poems written by the poet Nobuo Okada. Conducted by Hiroshi Wakasugi with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. On Side B, it includes two pieces of tape music: Water Music, which is composed by altering recorded sounds of water droplets, and Vocalism AI, a collaborative work with Shuntaro Tanikawa, which uses a montage of voices by actors Kyoko Kishida and Hiroshi Mizushima. Takemitsu's unique perception of time and space is felt throughout, and even after more than 50 years, it still sounds completely fresh. This is the rare UK edition, which has a different jacket design from the US edition.
