A very obscure record has arrived. This is the only album released in 1989 by Trijo, a group from the former Czechoslovakia consisting of Caclav Bratrych (sax), Vojtech Havel (cello), Petr Chlouba (vb, per), and Miroslav Pudlak (p). The album features an organic ethnic jazz that beautifully fuses Eastern European folk and traditional music with a contemporary music approach. It evokes a world similar to Don Cherry's series of ethnic jazz or Oregon, which included Ralph Towner and Collin Walcott. Additionally, there are hints of minimalism akin to Steve Reich. Please give it a listen. Highly recommended.
