Trio Madjesi was formed by three singer-songwriters, Mario aka Buana Kitoko, Loko Masengo Djeskain and Saak Saakul Sinatra, who had been working in the urban areas of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in Central Africa since the 1960s. The group was popular in the Congo and France between 1972 and 1978. The group disbanded in 1978 at the height of their popularity due to the deterioration of the political situation, with the country divided into three parts, and reunited in Paris in 1983. The rumba congolese rhythms of the early albums, with their Afro-percussion and electric guitars, and the excellent chorus work and chants, are still there, but have evolved into a more danceable soukous. Also highly recommended for those who like Nigerian afro-beats.
