This album was released in 1983 from the Nonesuch label's Explorer Series, a series of albums featuring local recordings of carnival music from the West Indies. The album was recorded between 1969 and 1971 in the Lesser Antilles, distributed from the eastern to the southeastern tip of the Caribbean Sea, and includes Merengue by the Jing Ping Band of Dominica, Masoke by the Village Band, Calypso by the Bamboo Band of Young Island and the Cococa-lute duo of Grenada, and other primitive rituals. This is an excellent opportunity to experience the original style of Caribbean music that is still popular around the world today.
