This album, directed by the late American composer and visual artist Alvin Lucier—who sadly passed away in 2021—was released in 1967. It compiles works based on vocal material composed by leading avant-garde musicians from around the world, featuring an impressive lineup that includes Lucier himself, John Cage, Robert Ashley, Morton Feldman, Pauline Oliveros, and Toshi Ichiyanagi. The entire album is absolutely flawless, but there are a few standout moments: Lucier's track A2, which makes full use of a vocoder designed by Sylvania Electronics Systems; Cage’s A3, processed electronically by Gordon Mumma and David Tudor; and Ichiyanagi’s B2, created using a Moog synthesizer and a Buchla modular system—each of these tracks is exceptionally intense. Considering this music was produced over 50 years ago, it's nothing short of astonishing. Extremely highly recommended. This is the original US stereo pressing.
