This is a compilation album released in 1978 as the second installment of "New Music for Virtuosos," which focuses on American composers. It features contemporary classical works by Robert Erikson, Andrew Imbrie, Robert Hall Lewis, Robert Morris, Ralph Shapey, and Harvey Sollberger. A3, a solo for double bass with unstable melodies randomly placed in space, and B3, for trombone and narration using special playing techniques, are interesting compositions that show an affinity with the avant-garde jazz of the New York loft jazz scene and Chicago's AACM.
