Released in 1980 as a King Records project, this two-LP set is themed around the music of the Silk Road. Centered mainly on live recordings from a concert held at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Recital Hall in 1979, the album contains a vast selection of folk and traditional music from China — including Han Chinese, Mongolian, and Uyghur traditions — as well as India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. Among the many fascinating recordings are A4, a Mongolian folk song that incorporates the vocal technique of khoomei, and B3, a lyrical song from Afghanistan. A deeply interesting collection throughout.
A4: Folksong of the Mongols “A Black Stallion”
B3: Delbarakam Beya Ba Kabul Burem
C3: Rhythmic Cycle on Dhole and Chinta
