This album, released in 1977 as the third installment of "The New York Loft Jazz Sessions," traces the trajectory of the loft jazz scene that flourished in New York during the 1970s. It features a groovy Latin jazz piece A1 by pianist Randy Weston's trio, a quartet performance by guitarist Michael (Gregory) Jackson who released the acclaimed album "Clarity" the same year, a trio piece A3 by pianist Dave Burrell, a dramatic spiritual jazz piece B1 by trumpeter Ahmed Abdullah's ensemble, and a primitive avant-jazz piece B2 by drummer Andrew Cyrille's group. Each track is filled with the energy and cutting-edge nature that symbolize the rise of the American free jazz scene, making this one of the best entries in the series. Highly recommended throughout.
