A 1990 debut album by Veni, a group formed in 1987 by a new generation of performers and composers from then-Czechoslovakia. The album features compositions by two of the most adventurous Czech composers of the period, Martin Burlas and Daniel Matej. Side A, composed by Martin Burlas, is an extended minimalist string ensemble work lasting over 20 minutes, with a structural approach that strongly reflects the influence of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. As the piece develops, distorted electric guitar suddenly erupts into the texture, leading into a striking collage-like passage with a distinctly musique concrète character. Side B, composed by Daniel Matej, takes a different direction, combining strings and horns in a modern classical framework. The music is gradually overtaken by a mysterious drone that seems to continue endlessly, creating a deeply immersive and hypnotic sound world.
