Vienna Art Orchestra and Voices
Swiss Swing
Mores Music (Germany) 1986
02060 (LP)
sleeve : EX-(some slightly dirts.)
media : VG+/EX-(some light surface noise and light pop noise. side A has three hairlines that does not affect to sounds.)
An album released in 1986 by the Vienna Art Orchestra, the ever-shifting collective centered around Swiss composer Mathias Ruegg, who also left behind such wonderfully odd works as From No Art to Mo-(2)-Art under the Vienna Art Choir name in 1983. Issued on Germany’s Moers Music, a label renowned for its catalog of singular and offbeat jazz recordings. Here, the group features five voice performers including Lauren Newton, unfolding a remarkably original kind of free music that resists easy categorization as either jazz or contemporary music—whichever part you focus on, it is unmistakably the unique world of this group. The sonic approach is different, but in Japan, Sakata Orchestra comes to mind as working from a somewhat similar idea. Recommended.
B1: Bergecho
B2: S’wott Fraueli…
B3: Von der Rigi
